The Karnataka police on Wednesday denied infecting Abdul Karim Telgi, alleged kingpin of the multi-crore fake stamp paper racket, with the HIV virus.
Telgi, who was arrested by the Karnataka police in 2001, is a chronic diabetic and a cardiac patient, his counsel, Nanaiah, said.

"I don't want to talk about someone's medical history. But we knew that Telgi had tested positive for HIV two years prior to his arrest in connection with the scam," STAMPIT chief S S Sreekumar told PTI adding it is yet another attempt by Telgi to secure bail on medical grounds.
STAMPIT is special investigation team set up the Karnataka government to probe the racket.
