Mumbai police chief denies applying for leave

Mumbai Police Commissioner R S Sharma has denied any plans to go on leave but admitted meeting Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Thursday morning.

"I had not submitted any leave application to the chief minister," he told reporters outside his office in the police headquarters.

Though the reports about Sharma going on leave had been floating since morning, it was only in the evening that mediapersons managed to get in touch with him for a clarification.

Sharma also met Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who holds the home portfolio.

"I did not get any leave application from R S Sharma so far and neither is it pending before the home department," he said.

Bhujbal is unhappy with the media's coverage of the fake stamp paper racket claiming it did not highlight the action he has taken so far to expose the racket.

Prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi had reportedly obtained a transfer order relating to a manager in the Nashik-based India Security Press.

'I placed the letter (mentioning the order) before the assembly during the Nagpur session. But nobody highlighted it," he said.
