Dissatisfied with the allotment of tickets for the assembly polls in Rajasthan, Bharatiya Janata Party member of Parliament from Bharatpur, Vishwendra Singh, has quit his Lok Sabha seat.
Sources close to him said senior leaders are trying to persuade him to withdraw his resignation.
Singh, a member of the Bharatpur royal family, faxed his resignation to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Friday and gave its copy to party leader and national treasurer, Ram Das Agrawal, in Delhi, sources in Singh's office in Bharatpur said.
However, they said, Singh's resignation has not been accepted yet.
Singh is scheduled to meet BJP leaders in Delhi later in the day.
Party president M Venkaiah Naidu said he had not received the letter.
"... selection of candidates was not done by one person but it was a party decision," Naidu said in New Delhi.
