Former Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam minister T Kiruttinan, who was found murdered near his house on Tuesday, was buried at his farm house in his native village in Sivaganga district on Thursday.

His son, Tholkappian, performed the last rites in the presence of senior party leaders, including general secretary K Anbazhagan and treasurer Arcot Veerasamy.

Barring a minor incident when some supporters of the dead leader booed DMK's youth wing leader M K Stalin, the funeral procession passed off peacefully.

Union ministers S Tirunavukkarasar and M Kannappan, Congress leader S Balakrishnan, member of Parliament from Sivaganga, Sudarsana Natchiappan and former DMK minister I Periyasamy attended the funeral.

A statement released by Stalin said that at a time when DMK men were in deep sorrow following Kiruttinan's murder, an attempt was was being made by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to split the party.

The Madurai police on Wednesday morning had arrested M K Azhagiri, son of DMK president M Karunanidhi, in connection with the murder.
