Jammu and Kashmir's Deputy Power Minister Javed Mustaffa Mir had a taste of what the people in his constituency face during a cordon and search operation jointly conducted by the Rashtriya Rifles and the paramilitary Border Security Force at Chadoora in central Kashmir.
"I was on a routine visit to Chadoora and came to know that the security forces were conducting search operation in the area. I told the security force officers to conduct searches without harassing the locals," the deputy power minister told rediff.com.
"However" he said, "they lifted five boys from among the locals and started abusing them. One of them was beaten."
"I could not tolerate this and I told the army officers not to harass the locals. But the soldiers misbehaved with me without any provocation from my side," Mir said.
Mir said he went to the Chadoora police station and filed a first information report.
"After my return here (Srinagar) I talked to the state chief secretary. I told him to take up the matter with senior security force officers here. The officer and the soldiers who are involved in the incident should be shifted from the area," the deputy power minister said.
