Concerned over the likely impact of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's current visit to Beijing, Pakistan on Monday accused the Indian leadership of attempting to 'mislead' China with 'chants of cross-border terrorism'.

Referring to Vajpayee's comments on cross-border terror before he left for Beijing on Sunday, Pakistan foreign office spokesman Masood Khan said in Islamabad: "India and Pakistan should try to engage each other... We should avoid making public statements and discuss all issues, including the issue of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations."

Asked whether China would get influenced by Vajpayee's visit, Khan said, "China's influence in South Asia is stabilising. Their engagement with Pakistan has been positive... we hope that Beijing will persuade India to come to the negotiating table."
