The condition of the ailing Ramjanambhoomi Nyas (trust) president Ramchandra Paramhans Das, who suffered a massive heart attack on Thursday morning, was not stable enough to be shifted to Lucknow, Vishwa Hindu Parishad sources said in the state capital quoting doctors.
Das, who is in his 90s, suffered the heart attack around 0730 IST at his Digambar akhara in the temple town of Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh, VHP senior vice-president Giriraj Kishore told PTI in Delhi.
He was admitted to the Faizabad District Hospital after he suffered the attack.
"Das is in the intensive care unit. His condition is critical," Chief Medical Officer O P Pathak had said in the morning.
Sources in Faizabad had told PTI that there were plans to take him to Lucknow by a special government plane.
Several members of the temple movement, including VHP leader Ashok Singhal and BJP state president Vinay Katiyar, rushed to the Faizabad District Hospital on hearing about Das's condition.
Additional security arrangements were put in place outside the hospital as a precautionary measure.
Das had kept the nation on tenterhooks during the shiladaan programme at Ayodhya in March 2002 in support of the construction of the Ram temple at the disputed site.
Das often said his sole aim was to see the Ram temple built during his lifetime.
