The National Human Rights Commission has sought a report within 72 hours from the Kanpur police and the Railway Police Force in Delhi over a complaint by a Malaysian citizen alleging police 'apathy' in tracing her father.
In her complaint, Shyama Nair said her father disappeared from a train near Etawah in Uttar Pradesh while travelling to Delhi from Varanasi with the family.
The NHRC issued a notice to the inspector general and the senior superintendent of the Kanpur Police, and the IG of RPF, seeking their comments on the incident.
Nair alleged that though a complaint was lodged at the Railway Police Station in Delhi and in Kanpur, the police took 'no action'. They even refused to accept a photograph of the victim, which could help in searching him, the complaint said.
She said a report was also lodged at the Malaysian embassy which expressed its 'inability' to help.
