A special court on Monday remanded Maharashtra Public Service Commission member and prime accused in the multi-crore answer paper scam Saili Joshi, to police custody till June 16.

Joshi was arrested on Sunday night after she was discharged from a hospital in Pune. She was brought to Mumbai on Monday morning and produced before designated judge P N Deshmukh, who remanded her to custody.

Earlier, the Anti-Corruption Bureau raided her Mumbai house on the basis of search warrants issued against her and allegedly recovered incriminating documents.

Joshi was implicated by co-accused and controller of examination, Sudhakar Sarodkar, who had made a statement before a magistrate.

She had been in hospital for more than a month allegedly trying to evade arrest, ACB sources said.

About 21 accused, including former MPSC chairpersons S D Karnik and P D Wani, have been arrested in the scam. They are in judicial custody.

The accused had conspired to replace answer sheets of 399 candidates who appeared for 1999 written examination conducted by MPSC for the post of sub-inspector of police, sales tax inspector and Mantralaya (state secretariat) assistants.
