The Jammu and Kashmir government has set up the first artificial limb centre in the state to help hundreds of people who have lost their limbs in bomb blasts and militancy related incidents, a state health ministry official said.

"The centre has been set up in the Government Medical College hospital in Jammu," Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Yash Pal Sharma on Monday told PTI in Jammu.

So far, victims of blasts and militancy related incidents had to go outside the state for such treatment, Sharma said.

Every year, 4,000-5,000 people lose their limbs in the militancy-hit state, he said adding the centre had treated 23 cases till date.
