Many sadhus and mahants, camping at a specially prepared 'Sadhu Gram' (village for sadhus) in Nashik (Maharashtra), spread over around 103 acres, were suffering from fever, cold and cough due to the wet climatic conditions following incessant rains for the past two days.

A large number of sadhus have come to stay at Sadhu Gram to attend the Kumbh Mela, which gets underway on July 30.

The administration has made available basic amenities like toilets and drinking water at the venue.

However, most of their tents are in open areas and inmates are vulnerable to rough climatic conditions.

The health department of the Nashik Municipal Corporation has deployed its medical squad and mobile vans to provide relief. The department's staff has so far attended to about 1,200 sadhus, NMC sources said in Nashik.

Meanwhile, the medical squad of the NMC's Animal Husbandry Department is also monitoring the health of horses and elephants brought by the sadhus, the sources said.
