Pakistan kept chemical inspectors' visit secret

International chemical inspectors recently conducted their second industrial inspection in Pakistan in June, a media report said on Friday.

The inspectors, representing the Hague-based Organisation of the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, inspected Nobel Wah (Private) Limited, The News daily quoted sources as saying.

However, the foreign office was believed to have kept the visit a secret to avoid unnecessary media speculation, the daily said.

The foreign office was of the opinion that the OPCW inspectors in April got unnecessary media hype and created needless alarm, the report said. On April 29, a three-member OPCW team inspected the Fauji Jordan fertilizer in Karachi.

The inspectors gave a clearance report to the two unit they visited, the report added.

Pakistan is a signatory to the UN's Chemical Weapon Convention treaty, which asks member countries to destroy their chemical weapons and open their sites for inspection.
