Amarnath Yatra, which was suspended on Wednesday due to bad weather, resumed on Thursday morning with 2,800 pilgrims proceeding to the holy cave shrine from Baltal and Nunwan base camps following the official opening of the twin tracks to the cave.

As many as 2,588 pilgrims, including 475 women and 40 children, left Baltal base camp at around 0900 hours IST to proceed towards the cave shrine situated at an altitude of 2880 metres, an official spokesman said.

The pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine of Amarnath in south Kashmir Himalayas was briefly suspended on Wednesday as heavy rains lashed several parts of Kashmir rendering the hilly tracks slippery.

An official spokesman said another batch of 4,470 pilgrims, including 363 female, 85 children and 488 sadhus, left Jammu for Amarnath on Thursday morning.
