Tamil Nadu government employees on Saturday night called off their 11-day-old strike.
A decision in this effect was taken at a meeting of the Federation of the Joint Action Council of the Tamil Nadu Teachers and Government Employees organisations and the Confederation of Tamil Nadu Teachers and Government Employees associations, K Suryamurthy, president of the employees' union, said.
Suryamurthy said the strike had been called off as the associations wanted to create a conducive atmosphere for talks with the government.
He requested the government to reciprocate by revoking dismissal orders of over 3.5 lakh employees.
"An extraordinary situation had been created in the state. It is not the time for analysing things like who was responsible for such a situation."
