Maharashtra's chief minister-designate, Sushil Kumar Shinde, was on Friday elected leader of the ruling Democratic
Front coalition at a meeting in Mumbai.
Shinde was declared elected amidst loud thumping of desks and slogan shouting in the Vidhan Sabha.
He was expected to meet Governor Mohammed Fazal later in the day.
Shinde was elected to head the Congress Legislature Party on Thursday and his swearing in has been tentatively scheduled for Saturday.
Earlier in the day, the governor accepted Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh's resignation.
