In order to take on the Left Front in the Tripura assembly election, the Congress and the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra on Friday arrived at a seat-sharing arrangement.
The Congress will contest 42 seats and the INPT 18 seats reserved for scheduled tribes, All India Congress Committee secretary and in-charge of Tripura, Mani Shankar Aiyar, said in New Delhi.
The Congress will contest the remaining two seats reserved for STs and all the seven seats reserved for scheduled castes, he said in the presence of INPT general secretary Rabindra Debabarma.
The two parties will jointly campaign for their candidates, Aiyar said.
Debabarma said the aim was to oust the ruling Left Front government and bring peace and harmony in the state.
