The police on Thursday seized a mobile phone and money from the jail cell of Aftab Ansari, prime accused in last year's terrorist attack on the American Centre in Kolkata

The police raided his cell after being tipped off by an informer.

Ansari is also accused in the kidnap of shoe baron Partho Pratim Roy Burman and several other cases, the police said on Thursday.

Ansari had used the mobile phone, seized on Monday in the Presidency jail, to make calls to his accomplices in Dubai. He allegedly has links with the Laskar-e-Tayiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed and Harkat-ul-Jehadi.

He was arrested in Dubai a day after the attack on the American Center as he was boarding a flight to Islamabad.

Two wardens have been suspended and a high level inquiry constituted to ascertain how Ansari procured the mobile phone and cash amounting to Rs 500, sources said.

The security around Ansari's cell has been tightened, police said, adding a case was registered with the Hastings police station.
