The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday filed charge sheet in the high-profile Madhumita Shukla murder case.

The charge sheet names six people, including former Uttar Pradesh minister Amarmani Tripathi, his wife Madhumani Tripathi and nephew Rohit Chaturvedi.

The Central Bureau of Investigation had arrested former Tripathi after it received confirmation from Hyderabad's Central Forensic Laboratory that his DNA had matched with that of the poetess' dead foetus.

On May 26, 2003, the Criminal Investigation Department of UP had sent the foetus to the Centre for testing in Hyderabad.

Shukla, 24, was gunned down from close range in her two-room apartment in Lucknow's Paper Mill Colony on May 9.

The murder had created uproar in UP, leading to Tripathi's exit from the Mayawati Cabinet.

Initially, the UP police was handling the murder case. But intense pressure from the opposition and the media forced the then chief minister Mayawati to transfer the case to the CID.

But she asked the agency to complete the investigation in a month. The opposition raised a ruckus and after pressure from the Centre the case was handed over to the CBI.

The charge sheet was filed before the Judicial Magistrate Kumari Rita Gupta by CBI officials from where it would be sent to the concerned court.

The charge sheet was filed within six months of the registration of a case by the agency.

Besides Tripathi, the CBI has named Prakash Chander Pandey (alleged killer), Santosh Rai (accomplice), Rohit Chaturvedi (cousin of Tripathi and an alleged conspirator) and Yag Narian Dixit (a UP police inspector who allegedly suppressed the facts), the CBI said.

Tripathi's wife Madhumani has been named in the charge sheet as an absconder, they said.
