The SIT searched Mulani's houses in Pune and Satara on December 5 and 6 soon after his arrest.

Mulani was admitted to the Sassoon Hospital in Pune when he complained of uneasiness soon after his arrest.

Mulani has been arrested under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act for his alleged links with Abdul Karim Telgi, the prime accused in the case.

Mulani was the assistant commissioner of police in Pune when the scam was unearthed by the Bund Garden police station in June, 2003.

Mulani was due to retire on August 31, 2003, but was suspended by the government on August 24.
