Former Mumbai police commissioner R S Sharma is likely to face disciplinary action by the Maharashtra government for failing to reply to the charge sheet served on him, home ministry sources said. The deadline expired on Friday.
Sharma has demanded access to certain papers from the home ministry to enable him to reply to the charges framed against him, the sources said. The state home ministry is unlikely to give him any papers. This decision will be conveyed to him soon.
Acting on the SIT report submitted to Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on a Mumbai high court directive, the state government had chargesheeted Sharma on November 25 in connection with the fake stamp paper case and asked him to reply by December 4. The charge sheet accused Sharma of dereliction of duty and listed acts of commission and omission, which caused the probe into the scam to suffer.
