The casualties in Monday's twin blasts in Mumbai -- at least 45 dead and 150 injured -- rank second only to the serial blasts of March 12, 1993, in which more than 250 people were killed and around 1,000 injured in the city.
Between the two tragedies, India's commercial capital has experienced a spate of bomb blasts.
In July, four people were killed and 32 injured when a blast ripped apart a public transport bus at Ghatkopar in northeast Mumbai.
In March, a blast on a Mumbai local train at Mulund again in northeast Mumbai claimed 11 lives and left 64 injured. That explosion came a day after the 10th anniversary of the serial blasts in the city.
In January, one woman was killed and 25 people were injured in a blast outside the Vile Parle railway station in the city's western suburbs. An explosive believed to have been placed on a bicycle parked in a busy marketplace outside the station went off, setting off panic in the area.
For it came less than a month after two people were killed and 28 were injured in a blast outside the Ghatkopar railway station, again on a bus. That was in December 2002,
