Mumbai local trains running on the western line were delayed on Wednesday morning due to a rupture in the tracks between Malad and Kandivili.

Several peak-time commuters were stranded at Malad and Kandivili stations.

A railway spokesman told rediff.com the rupture on the tracks took place at 0840 hours IST. It was repaired by 0920 hours, he said. Trains were suspended for a short period of time, he said.

The cancellation of services led to passengers staging an impromptu agitation at Malad station even as a minor incident of stone pelting was also reported.

However, the fault was set right after some time and the train services were restored, the spokesperson said adding, trains are plying 10-15 minutes behind schedule.
