The separatist outfit wants to understand the Northern Ireland peace process and determine if it can be applied to the Kashmir problem.

An All-Parties Hurriyat Conference delegation on Wednesday met diplomats from Ireland in Delhi to understand the Northern Ireland peace process, and determine if it can be applied to Kashmir.

The three-member delegation comprised Hurriyat chairman Maulana Abbas Ansari, and former chairmen Abdul Gani Bhat and Mirwaiz Umer Farooq. Peoples' League member Bashir Tota accompanied them.

The Hurriyat leaders have been silent about the discussions.

According to the Irish peace process, the Irish Republican Army would stop its militant activities while its political arm, Sinn Fein, held talks with the British government.

The talks depended on the IRA observing a ceasefire.

Hurriyat leaders are reportedly keen to familiarise themselves with the intricacies of the process, but what remains to be seen is whether they have control over the militants operating in Jammu and Kashmir.
