The Amarnath Yatra was on Monday suspended for a day following heavy rains along the two routes to the cave shrine, official sources said in Srinagar.
Overnight rains lashed the Pahalgam and Baltal routes to the 3,880-metre high cave rendering the two tracks slippery and dangerous forcing authorities to suspend the yatra for the day, they said.
Although the rains stopped around afternoon, the authorities did not allow the yatris to proceed forward or backward as a precautionary measure, the sources said.
The yatris were camping at resting places along the routes, they said.
The sources said the situation is being monitored and the yatra would be resumed once the weather improves and the routes become safe.
