The daughter of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed was appointed after Muzaffar Hussain Baig, who the finance, law, planning and parliamentary minister, quit saying he was not able to pay enough attention to party work.
In a significant development, Mehbooba Mufti on took over the reins of the ruling Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party following the resignation of Muzaffar Hussain Baig as party president.
Baig, who is the finance, law, planning and parliamentary minister in the coalition government, resigned on Tuesday and nominated Mehbooba, vice-president of the PDP, as caretaker chief of the party, PDP sources said.
Baig became president of the party after the election of Mufti Mohammed Sayeed as chief minister in November last year. In his resignation letter, Baig said he was not able to pay due attention to party work.
