Rajeev Shukla, the lone Rajya Sabha member of the Loktantrik Congress Party and a member of the NDA Coordination Committee, on Thursday joined the Congress saying it alone could lead the country to the path of peace and development.
"I am disgusted with rising communalism, casteism and regionalism. I see Congress as the only true nationalist party, which can confront these evils and lead the country to the path of peace and development," journalist-turned-politician Shukla said after joining the party.
Welcoming him into the party fold, Ahmed Patel, political secretary to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, said Shukla's entry into the Congress would help strengthen the party.
Satish Sharma, another Loktantrik Congress member and a former minister in UP, also joined the party along with Shukla.
Shukla, who met Gandhi on Thursday morning, said, "I have no relations with the Sangh Parivar."
Asked whether Loktantrik Congress Lok Sabha MP Chandravijay Singh too would join the Congress, Shukla said talks were on in this regard.
He said more Loktantrik leaders, including former ministers, MLAs and MLCs, were likely to join Congress.
