Two top naxalites of the People's War were killed on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Sunday morning.

A police party from Nalgonda district, which was chasing the naxalites, spotted them near a petrol bunk at Hayathnagar, which comes under the jurisdiction of the Cyberabad police in Rangareddy district.

The naxalites opened fire when they were asked to surrender. In the exchange of fire, which occurred at around 0830 IST, Ramana Reddy, PW district committee member, Hyderabad-Secunderabad, and Vinobha, central organiser (action team) were killed.

Reddy and Vinobha carried on their heads rewards of Rs 10 lakh and Rs 3 lakh respectively.

Director-General of Police Pervaram Ramulu said, "This is a major setback to the PW activities."

Apparently, the Cyberabad police was unaware of the presence of the party from Nalgonda. On hearing about the encounter, Cyberabad Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy and other top officials rushed to the spot.
