Delhi police starts attaching
R K Sharma's properties

In an effort to mount pressure on absconding senior IPS officer R K Sharma, prime accused in the murder of Indian Express reporter Shivani Bhatnagar, the Delhi police has begun attaching his properties, estimated to be worth millions of rupees.

Police have already attached six of Sharma's properties, including four houses, and sealed his bank accounts after a Delhi court on September 9 declared him a proclaimed offender.

"The process of attachment has begun and we are identifying and enlisting his properties, which are scattered at various places across the country," a top police official told PTI on Tuesday.

Sharma's properties include three flats in Gurgaon (Haryana), a house in Mussoorie (Uttaranchal), a piece of land in Uttar Pradesh, he said adding, their cost is believed to be around Rs 30 million (Rs three crore).

The measures were initiated after Sharma, who has been absconding since August 2, failed to surrender despite a court issuing a non-bailable warrant against him.

Meanwhile, Sharma is believed to be contemplating moving the Supreme Court for anticipatory bail after failing to get it from the lower courts.
