Bihar police file case against railway staff, railways against unidentified people

The blame game between the Bihar government and the railways over Monday night's derailment of Howrah-Delhi Rajdhani Express took a new turn on Wednesday with both sides filing criminal cases.

Pressing with its sabotage theory, the railways filed a criminal case at the Deo police station against 'unidentified persons,' Eastern Railway sources said.

The Bihar police registered a case at the Aurangabad police station against railway employees, including the driver and the guard of the train.

Bihar's Director General of Police R R Prasad said Additional DGP (Railway Police) L Sinha has been asked to handle the investigations.

Rejecting the sabotage theory, Prasad said poor track maintenance was at the root of the accident.

Railway Minister Nitish Kumar and his deputy Bandaru Dattatreya and Railway Board Chairman I I M S Rana had on Tuesday said that the accident was a clear case of sabotage as fish plates had been found removed near the accident site.

This, however, was contested by former Bihar chief minister Laloo Prasad Yadav and senior state police officials.
