'Dead' man turns up alive and kicking

He was declared dead in the Rajdhani Express accident on Monday night.

But on Tuesday morning Kaushik Mukherjee called home to say that he was alive and kicking.

Mukherjee's relatives and friends, who had rushed to his Behala residence in Kolkata to console the 'bereaved' family, were all smiles as they escorted the man, who suffered injuries, to his residence from the Howrah station.

Life is a tale of strange twists and turns, and Mukherjee will now certainly vouch for it.

He was scheduled to leave Kolkata by the Rajdhani Express on Sunday, but had to defer his journey by a day, as his ticket was not confirmed.

A few hours after he left by the same train on Monday, Mukherjee's family got the news of his 'death'.

But at 0930 hours (IST) his family received a call from an all too familiar voice. "This is Kaushik. I am okay, but slightly injured. I am calling from Gaya. I'm returning by the special train."

"It's all luck, you know, and I've been always lucky," Mukherjee, who was a passenger in the worst affected AS1 coach, grinned.
