Railway security tightened after Rajdhani accident

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

The Indian Railways have sounded an alert in the Danapur division of Eastern Railway following the accident of the Rajdhani Express near Rafiganj in Aurangabad district of Bihar on Monday night, in which 150 passengers are feared killed and over 200 injured.

Security has been tightened at all major stations of the division in northern and central Bihar and security personnel have been ordered to check all long-distance trains originating from or passing through Patna Junction, a senior Railway Protection Force officer said.

A strict vigil is also being maintained at all major bridges in the division. Track patrolling, usually carried out during monsoon, is also being intensified, especially at vulnerable places.

Other divisions of the Eastern Railway have also been put on an alert. RPF jawans on train escort duty have been instructed to remain alert and carry out intensive checks inside the bogies as well.
