Indian, US paratroopers conduct 'live' firing exercise

Indian and American paratroopers conducted the first-ever 'live' firing exercise during operation Geronimo Thrust in Alaska highlands, which took place between September 29 to October 10.

During the exercise, Indian Special Forces used the American MP4 and MP5 assault rifles, which fire disintegrating shells. The assault rifles are considered a powerful weapon against terrorist concentrations and for mob control.

The Indian contingent along with special forces of the US pacific command also conducted airborne exercises, an army spokesman said.

Eight senior Indian Army and Indian Air Force officers witnessed the exercises as observers. Indian ambassador to the United States Lalit Mansingh met the contingents and witnessed some of the training events.
