Salman's Land Cruiser may have been stolen

Dharmesh Thakkar in Mumbai

The investigation into Salman Khan's Toyota Land Cruiser took a new turn on Wednesday. Registered under an Abdul Rahim, it is now suspected the vehicle may have been stolen from Mumbai port.

Sources close to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, who also holds the home portfolio, say the vehicle may have been sold to Salman Khan by actor Chunky Pandey's younger brother Chikki Pandey.

Bhujbal, who was dissatisfied with the investigation into the Salman Khan case, had ordered a probe directed by Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Javed Ahmed to investigate the accident where the Bollywood star ran over four pavement dwellers on September 28, killing one and injuring a couple of others seriously.

Ahmed told rediff.com that the vehicle was registered in a benami name. He refused to elaborate but asserted that a few more film folk may be summoned for questioning. The Land Cruiser is believed to be among the 32 vehicles stolen from the Mumbai Port Trust precincts last year.
