Salman Khan's alcohol
test proves positive

The medical test conducted on actor Salman Khan, who allegedly ran his Land Cruiser over some pavement dwellers killing one and injuring four, has 'revealed traces of alcohol beyond permissible limits in his blood', a top police official said on Tuesday

Joint Commissioner of Police (law and order) Javed Ahmed, who is probing the case, however, refused to disclose the exact percentage of alcohol detected in the blood.

Interestingly, the actor, in a statement to the police, had denied consuming alcohol on the ill-fated day.

Salman had reportedly been partying the entire night at a popular night spot before the accident.

Witnesses have said that Salman was at the wheels when he allegedly rammed the vehicle into the bakery, running over some people sleeping outside at around 0300 hours IST on September 28, a charge his lawyer has denied.

The actor had fled after the accident and surrendered before the police at around 1100 hours. It was another few hours before he was taken for an alcohol test.

This glaring gap had stirred up a controversy that the test would perhaps fail to produce evidence of alcohol owing to the time lapsed since the consumption.

The actor is out on bail after having furnished Rs 950 and a surety.
