Hindujas, Bofors indicted in gun deal case

The London-based Hinduja brothers and Bofors AB were formally charged with criminal conspiracy and cheating in the Bofors payoff case by a special court in New Delhi on Friday.

Special Judge Prem Kumar, who framed the charges against the three Hinduja brothers --- Srichand, Gopichand, Prakashchand --- and Bofors, fixed December 4 as the day for the trial to begin.

All the four accused have pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Announcing his order on Thursday, the special judge said the prima facie accused were liable to be charged for offences under section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and section 420 (cheating).

They have also been charged under sections 5(1)(d) and 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, among other sections.
