4 dead, about 50 injured as Haryana farmers' stir spreads

Four farmers were killed and around 50 persons, including policemen, injured in police firing and skirmishes at several places in Jind as the stir by Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) activists for waiver of outstanding power bills and release of their arrested leaders entered the 12th day on Friday.

The police resorted to firing in self-defence when some protesting farmers fired at cops clearing the blocked Jind-Hansi road at Gulkani village on Friday afternoon, Jind police chief K K Rao said.

BKU spokesman Baljeet Singh said four farmers were killed in the police firing.

They were Vijender Singh, Parkash alias Dolly, Dilbagh and Maha Singh.

Rao confirmed two deaths.

The farmers' stir spread to other districts, including Hissar, Fatehabad and Rohtak, where also BKU activists blocked roads.
