Armitage to head for
South Asia on June 4

US Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage will visit India and Pakistan on June 4 to help defuse tensions between the two neighbours, the State Department said on Friday.

"We expect him to be leaving Washington on the 4th of June heading to South Asia, and then meeting with the leadership in both countries there," deputy spokesman of the US State Department Philip Reeker said.

Reeker said that State Department officials are in touch with their counterparts in South Asia to help encourage a dialogue between the two.
