Parliament attack: Chargesheet to be filed on Tuesday

The Delhi police special cell that investigated the terrorist attack on Parliament on December 13 last year would file a chargesheet in the designated Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) court of S N Dhingra on Tuesday afternoon.

A senior Delhi police official told rediff.com that the chargesheet was ready almost two weeks back.

However, the police had to get Delhi Lt Governor Vijay Kapoor's approval for framing charges under POTA against the accused.

Five terrorists armed with sophisticated weapons and explosives had managed to sneak into the high security Parliament House complex on December 13 last year.

They were gunned down by security personnel while making an attempt to enter Parliament.

Nine security personnel and members of the watch and ward staff lost their lives in the attack.

The terrorists had used a vehicle with a Parliament and home ministry sticker to secure entry at the gates.

Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Maulana Masood Azhar, his representative in Jammu and Kashmir Gazi Baba and their accomplice Tariq have been declared proclaimed offenders in this case.

Those arrested under POTA include a JeM sympathiser Mohammad Afzal, a truck owner Shaukat Hussain, his wife Afsan Guru alias Navjot Sandhu and a lecturer Syed Abdul Rehman Geelani.

While Afzal and Shaukat have made confessional statements, Geelani and Afsan have refused to make any such statement before Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Chand (Special Branch), who is heading the investigation.
