Nearly 100 Maoists killed in Nepal

Nepal's defence ministry on Friday said that 90 rebels and two security personnel were killed when security forces targeted two training camps of the Maoists since Thursday night.

Forty insurgents were killed in Khida forest in Doti district while 50 others, including a Maoist area commander, perished in the Lisne area of Rolpa district, about 298 km west of Kathmandu, a ministry statement said.

Three rebels were arrested from Soyang area of Ilam district and arms seized, it added.

However, home ministry sources put the toll at over 140.

The sources said that Maoists on Thursday ambushed troops on a search operation in Rolpa district.

Security forces retaliated by attacking a training camp in which over 100 rebels were killed, they said.

Forty others were shot dead on Thursday night in the clash in Doti district, 398 km west of the capital, the sources said.
