"The trial will commence on April 5," he said after submitting the final charge sheets to an anti-terrorism court in Karachi.
"The government has decided that the trial should be held inside the prison because of security reasons," he added.
Justice Shabbar Ahmed set the trial date during Friday's hearing and appointed another judge to preside over the trail.
Jaish-e-Mohammed leader Sheikh Omar and Sheikh Adil, one of three men accused of sending emails containing photos of the American journalist in captivity, appeared under heavy security at the brief hearing.
The 11 suspects were charged on March 22 with murder, abduction, and terrorists activities, when prosecutors filed an interim charge sheet with the court.
Seven of those charged are absconding. Notable among them is Amjad Hussain Faroqui alias Haider Faroqui alias Hasan Mansoor, who Sheikh Omar has reportedly identified as one of the hijackers of the Indian Airlines flight in 1999.
