Defiant Trinamool MP Ajit Panja to support POT Bill

Defying Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee's directive to party Members of Parliament to stay away from the joint sitting of Parliament on the anti-terrorism Bill on Tuesday, rebel party Member of Parliament Ajit Panja on Monday said that he would vote in favour of the legislation.

Panja said that if any whip is issued to the MPs to remain absent, it would not be binding on him as Trinamool has suspended him from the party.

"Suspension and whip cannot go together," he said, describing the directive as 'another trickery to hoodwink the people'.

Panja said that he had spoken to some party colleagues, including Bikram Sarkar, Nitish Sengupta and Krishna Bose, but declined to divulge what views they expressed to him on the anti-terrorism Bill.
