Trinamul not to attend joint
session of Parliament

The Trinamul Congress on Friday said its MPs will not attend the joint session of Parliament on POTO on Tuesday.

"We have not participated in the debate [on POTO] in the Lok Sabha and there is no question of changing our stand," the party's chief whip in the Lok Sabha Sudip Bandopadhaya said.

The decision came within hours of all contituents of the ruling National Democratic Alliance resolving at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to get the Prevention of Terrorism Bill passed with a resounding majority.

Trinamul has nine members in the Lok Sabha and the party backs an independent in the Rajya Sabha.
