Musharraf to get himself elected President: Report

Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf is taking politicians into confidence for holding a referendum to get himself elected as the president for another term, leading Pakistani daily The News said on Friday.

"Musharraf is holding meetings with the politicians of various political parties to find an amicable solution to avoid the constitutional crisis," the daily quoted an official as saying.

The report said that Musharraf on Thursday met ten politicians, who extended full support to him.

Quoting interior ministry sources, the daily said that the referendum would be held in the third week of May and the elections as scheduled in October 2002.
