NCP MLAs against cabinet expansion, prefer reshuffle: Sharad Pawar

Majority of the MLAs of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), a major partner in Maharashtra's ruling Democratic Front coalition, opposed the move for a cabinet expansion but are not averse to a reshuffle, party president Sharad Pawar said on Tuesday.

However, the party was yet to formulate its stance over the matter, Pawar told mediapersons after a marathon meeting of party MLAs and office-bearers at the official residence of Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal in Mumbai.

Pawar refused to comment on moves afoot in the Congress to replace Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

The meeting assumes significance as it was held in the backdrop of discontent among party MLAs and the DF government surviving the recent political crisis set off by withdrawal of support by the Peasants and Workers' Party (PWP).
