BSF officer killed in Pakistani firing

Tension gripped the Indo-Pak border along Ganganagar in Rajasthan after an Assistant Commandant of the Border Security Force was killed in firing by Pakistani rangers, BSF sources said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening in Raisinghnagar area, when BSF officials intercepted an intruder trying to sneak into the Indian territory.

While the officials were questioning the intruder, Pakistani rangers opened indiscriminate fire from their Al Badar border post killing Sumer Singh.

The BSF retaliated and the exchange of fire continued for about four hours, the sources said.

The intruder was also killed during the cross-border firing, they added. The situation on the border is reported to be calm after the incident, the sources said.

The body of Singh has been taken to Sriganganagar, they added.
