Pak declines to respond to India's decision to recall warships

Pakistan declined on Tuesday to respond to India's decision to recall its warships from the Arabian Sea, but said it was really looking for talks with New Delhi.

Hours before United States Defence Secretary Rumsfeld's arrival, India ordered its ships to return to their base as a second step to ease tensions with Pakistan.

A senior Pakistan government official, who asked not to be identified, said the Indian move had yet to be confirmed.

"These are actions that need to be confirmed and then a response will be made by the government of Pakistan," he said.

Indian Naval Spokesman Commander Rahul Gupta said earlier that ships of the Western Fleet, which were on patrol in different areas of Arabian Sea, have been recalled to their base as per government decision.

"They are likely to enter Mumbai shortly," he said.

But the Pakistani official said what Islamabad was actually seeking was an 'initiation of dialogue' to resolve all outstanding issues.
