He said Pakistan would like India to follow the announcement by withdrawing its army and air force to peace time locations.
"We hope that the new process that India has started will be maintained on the path of logic and that India in the first instance will withdraw the offensive army and air force formations from Pakistan's orders and take them back to peace time locations," he said.
He said Pakistan hoped that India would also initiate a dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues, including Kashmir, in accordance with principles of justice and international law.
"That will be a path leading to durable peace between the two countries," he said.
Earlier, foreign office spokesman Aziz Ahmed Khan said "it was a step in the desired direction" but added that India needed to do more to de-escalate the tensions.
He said the Pakistan government was awaiting a report from the charge de affairs of its high commission in New Delhi.
A detailed reaction would follow after receiving the reports, he
said.
