In signs of growing discontent in Maharashtra's ruling Democratic Front alliance, senior Nationalist Congress Party leader Shalinitai Patil on Friday suggested Vilasrao Deshmukh government 'resign gracefully' and Front MLAs 'use their own wisdom' in deciding which way to go in the confidence vote the chief minister seeks on June 13.
In a letter to Deshmukh, Patil said since the DF government had failed to carry out the work, for which it was elected to power by the common man, it was only fair that it now stepped down and no longer blocked the path of progress.
According to Patil, the state treasury was virtually empty and the financial situation had deteriorated tremendously in the past 30 months that the government had been in power.
Moreover, the various projects in the state had also come to a standstill, she said.
