Terrorism in its most naked form: Advani

Mukhtar Ahmad in Srinagar

Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah on Sunday had to face the wrath of angry crowds when they visited Qasim Nagar, site of the latest massacre in the state.

Police had a tough time controlling the protestors who raised slogans against Farooq Abdullah and his administration.

Immediately after his arrival for an on-the-spot assessment, Advani drove straight to the SMGS hospital to enquire about the injured persons.

"This is terrorism in its most naked form. The objective of the militants was to spread fear through indiscriminate killing. I strongly condemn it," Advani later told newspersons.

He later met security personnel and reviewed the overall situation in the state.

He said the government would state its response to the Jammu attack when Parliament convenes on Monday.

Various political organisations have called for a Jammu bandh on Monday to protest against the killings.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has condemned the killings and demanded a probe by an impartial agency.

Bodies of 25 persons who died in Saturday were cremated at Jogi gate late on Sunday afternoon under tight security.

Police said bodies of two other victims would be cremated after identification.

Police sources said that the adjoining hills near Qasim Nagar are being combed as the police suspect that the militants may still be hiding there.

No one has yet admitted responsibility for the killings.

Earlier, Governor G C Saxena, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Omar Abdullah, Chief Secretary I S Malhi and Director General of Police Ashok Suri had visited the injured in hospital and the site of the carnage.
