Extremists attack police station in Jharkhand

Armed activists of the banned Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) attacked Baloomath police station in Jharkhand's Latehar district on Monday night and exchanged heavy fire with the forces, police said on Tuesday.

However, no casualties were reported from either side, police said.

Nearly 50 MCC extremists armed with sophisticated weapons disconnected the telephone line of the police station and engaged the policemen in an encounter for about half-an-hour, they said.

The extremists later escaped, they said.

Raids were being conducted at various places in Latehar and adjoining Palamau districts to nab the ultras, they added.
